QServer v1.12 Beta Release
--------------------------
This release of QServer is a beta release. It is not finished,
not fully tested.
Features
--------
At the moment this is what is included in the package:-
* !QServer
- Can query both Quake and Quake World servers
- Sorts players in order of score
- Fully multitasking and operations can be stopped
- Network code a little more reliable!
- Includes interface to QTalk allowing IRC chat on quake servers
- Ability to maintain 'profiles' for different players allowing
seperate configurations of Quake depending on the player
(No Quake namer yet so your stuck with the names as default)
- Configuration section (Not fully implemented yet)
- Underlying code completely rewritten
- Application structure tidied totally
* !QTalk (at http://wkweb5.cableinet.co.uk/a.j.eagle/dl.cgi?qtalk)
- Joins a Quake (not QuakeWorld) server as a seperate player
- Allows IRC style chat on Quake servers using QServers interface
- Supports commands such as '/ping', '/status', '/name', '/color'
- Fully integrated into QServer
(QTalk cannot join CTF servers yet)
Brief instructions
------------------
Double click on QServers icon to load. If you wish to use QTalk, make
sure the !QTalk application is seen before QServer is loaded.

Menu click on iconbar for menu
Iconbar menu
------------

Single player ... - For single player game (not implemented)
Multiplayer ... - Leads to new section (very not implemented!)

Server information window
-------------------------
Simply, much is the same as the previous QServer beta. Type in a servers
address and press either Return or the button 'Refresh'. QServer will then
query the server.
Servers which are on different ports to 26000 (the default port for
Quake servers) can be typed like so:-
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:portnum (e.g. with a colon seperating the address and
port number)
If the address of a QuakeWorld server is entered, QServer will try its
best to automatically switch to the QuakeWorld protocol.
Joining a server
----------------
Simply press the 'join server' button 8)
Talking on a server
-------------------
For this feature to work the !QTalk application must have been seen
by the filer before !QServer is launched otherwise the talk option
will be greyed.
By pressing the Talk button, QServer will launch QTalk and commence
to connect to the entered server address. The display will look similar
to that of Quake connecting to the server. Once connected you can
talk IRC style by typing and pressing enter.
To disconnect from the server just press the 'Close session' button.
QTalk will take some commands such as these below:-
/ping - shows everyones ping on the server
(yours will be 0!!)
/status - shows the status of the server and everyone on it
/name xxx - changes your name
/color xx xx - changes your color
/pause - pauses the game (naughty!)
... maybe some more. Experiment!
NOTE: QTalk has a problem connecting to CTF (Capture the flag) servers as
these servers require QTalk to change colour (which it doesn't yet).
What will happen is that you will get connected, and then after a
short period of time get chucked off the server and called a
'Cheating bastard'. heh.
Profile window
--------------
Click:-
Add - to add a new player profile
Remove - to delete the selected one (can't delete default)
Select - to select profile
Edit - opens edit profile window
Edit profile window
-------------------
This window is layed out in a tabular manner. On the various
tabs (Name, Colour, Aliases, Binding, Misc) are options which
configure how you look, your keys, etc. Most of them should
be self explanatory.
Note: The Name section is not implemented yet. This will soon
allow you to change your name, create animated names, etc. To
change the name of a profile you can go into !QServer.Choices.Profiles
and change the Name1= tag in any of the files in this directory to
what you want.
Click:-
Save - to save your changes
Cancel - to disregard your changes
OK - to use your changes but not save them
Default - change to default settings (not implemented)
Choices window
--------------
Hardly anything in this window is implemented yet except for the two
options at the top so I have greyed it.
Final note
----------
If something doesn't work -
It hasn't been written!
If something crashes badly -
It hasn't been tested!
